Chewbacca is about to get a new Han Solo
Harrison Ford is a tough act to follow. His performance as Han Solo made the Star Wars icon equally thrilling to men and women (albeit in different ways) and is central to the entire Star Wars phenomenon.
A new film will take a romp through the early years of the space cowboy, long before he even met Luke and Leia in Star Wars: A New Hope.
The spin off is slated to hit cinemas on May 25, 2018 and thousands of young actors have been auditioned for the role.
But is James Franco’s younger brother Dave about to eclipse his older sibling by playing one of the most iconic film characters of all time?

According to Variety magazine, the film makers have seen over 2,500 actors between the ages of 17 and 34.
The timing of the casting is crucial, since Star Wars: Rogue One still has at least another month of filming remaining and the producers are likely to want the new Han to make a cameo in the spin-off film. Rogue One is set immediately before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and concerns the efforts of a brave team from the Revel Alliance who infiltrate the Imperial defences to steal the plns for the Death Star.
The new Han Solo film is expected to be set a further ten years before Rogue One, meaning that the character would still be a very young man. Accordingly, the casting directors have narrowed their search to actors under 25 with EIGHT names on the shortlist.
The untitled film’s directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, along with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, are expected to announce their nw star within a matter of weeks.
Variety is reporting that the shortlist is a mix of established young stars and some up and coming actors.
James Franco’s brother Dave heads the list. The famous siblings share leading man hood looks and plenty of on-screen charm.
Dave, 30, has starred in major films like 21 and 22 Jump Street, Charlie St Cloud and Warm Bodies, but has yet to become a major star. Until now?
His closest competition seems to be Clint Eastwood’s son Scott and Fantastic Four star Miles Teller.

Scott Eastwood easily outguns Dave Franco’s family ties and has already headlined films like The Longest Ride.
The strapping 29-year-old is about to feature in the hugely anticipated Suicide Squad with Jared Leto this summer and has a huge social media presence thanks to high-profile modelling jobs for Davidoff Cool Water.
Miles Teller may wish to forget the recent box office disaster of The fantastic Four, but his biography is filled with plenty of other impressive moments.
Teller received critical praise for his leading role in the Oscar-nominated Whiplash and has a huge teen following thanks to his roles in the Divergent film and 21 & Over.
The other well-known names on the list include Ansel Elgort from the Divergent series and The Fault In Our Stars and Percy Jackson star Logan Lerman.
Emory Cohen has recently hit the headlines after the breakout success of the Saoirse Ronan film Brooklyn while Jack Reynor and Blake Jenner round out the eight.
Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton was flying the flag for British hopes but doesn’t feature in the list of the final eight, however he is already plenty busy over the next few years with teh starring role in a new Robin Hood film and the Kingsman sequel.
Of course, there has been no official word on this shortlist, so the perhaps there is still room for a new hope (sorry) for a home-grown Han.
